The Federal Government has threatened to shut down the Lagos section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway within two weeks over safety breaches and persistent vandalism along the project corridor.

The government raised concerns over activities that could endanger motorists and other road users, as well as the alleged destruction and removal of critical infrastructure installed along the highway.

Authorities said the safety violations and acts of vandalism could undermine the ongoing project and expose road users and construction workers to avoidable risks.The Federal Government has therefore issued a two-week deadline for the identified issues to be addressed, warning that failure to comply could lead to the closure of the affected section of the highway.The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the Federal Government’s major infrastructure projects, designed to improve connectivity and transportation along Nigeria’s coastline.The threatened closure is expected to affect movement along the Lagos section if the safety concerns and vandalism are not resolved within the stipulated period.
