President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few days and is expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend, the Presidency has announced.

Tinubu had departed Nigeria on August 30, 2026, for London, United Kingdom, to begin his working vacation.After spending a week in London, the President travelled to Paris, France, where he held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bollore.

Bollore’s business interests include Canal+, Multichoice and Universal Music Group.Tinubu continues to direct affairs from abroadDespite being away from Nigeria, Tinubu has continued to monitor developments at home and direct the affairs of the country.

The Presidency said the President recently ordered an independent panel to investigate the death of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Tinubu has also delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at several official engagements during his absence.

Shettima departed Abuja on September 20 for New York, where he is representing Nigeria at the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

With the Vice President attending the UNGA, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, will continue to represent the President at official functions.

Tinubu’s 2027 political consultationsThe Presidency also disclosed that political activities have continued during the President’s absence.

On the political front, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abubakar Yari, has been leading consultations involving notable party leaders and prominent traditional rulers across the country.

The Presidency also criticised comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a United States-based lobbying firm over Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly.

It described the insinuations concerning the President’s non-attendance at the UNGA as baseless and irresponsible.

Shettima to deliver Nigeria’s UNGA statement

Vice President Kashim Shettima is representing President Tinubu at the global conference in New York.According to the Presidency, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The development comes as Tinubu’s working vacation enters its final days, with the President expected back in Nigeria at the weekend.The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on September 21, 2026.
