The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has urged pastors, imams and other religious leaders to use their platforms to preach against corruption and promote integrity in society.

Olukoyede made the call while emphasising the important role of religious institutions in shaping the values and behaviour of Nigerians.

He urged religious leaders to go beyond condemning corruption after it has been committed and focus on preventing it by teaching their congregations the importance of honesty, accountability and responsible conduct.

According to him, churches and mosques have significant influence in their communities and can play a major role in addressing the attitudes and practices that encourage corruption.

The EFCC chairman called on clerics to consistently use their sermons, teachings and other engagements to discourage corrupt practices and encourage Nigerians to uphold ethical standards in their personal and professional lives.

He stressed that the fight against corruption should not be left to law enforcement agencies alone, noting that collective efforts involving religious, traditional, community and other leaders are necessary to tackle the menace.

Olukoyede further encouraged religious leaders to lead by example and promote values that would help build a society where integrity, accountability and respect for the law are upheld.
