Adebayo Vows to Scrap Luxury SUVs, Charter Flights for Public Officials.

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has vowed to scrap bulletproof sports utility vehicles, chartered flights and other luxury privileges for public officials if elected president

.Adebayo said his administration would redirect funds spent on executive luxuries to critical sectors, including education, healthcare and infrastructure.

He described the current system as one in which Nigerians indirectly subsidise the lavish lifestyles of political office holders at the expense of public welfare.

The SDP candidate stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Chief Media and Communications Adviser to the Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign, Comrade Mark Adebayo.

Citing civil society tracking reports and budget analyses, he claimed that spending on political privileges amounted to several trillions of naira annually.

He added that nearly one trillion naira was regularly earmarked across budget cycles for luxury utility vehicles, presidential fleet upgrades and executive renovations.

The SDP candidate further cited mid-2026 budget implementation figures, which he said indicated that 33 state governments spent more than 300 million dollars, equivalent to about 410 billion naira, on governors’ offices, Government Houses and executive travel within six months.

He condemned such expenditure amid widespread economic hardship, describing it as a waste of public resources under the current All Progressives Congress-led administration.

The SDP presidential candidate pledged that an SDP government would eliminate financial leakages, abolish what he described as unconstitutional vehicle allowances and restructure public spending to prioritise essential services.

The party urged Nigerians to reject political leaders who treat public funds as personal resources and embrace an economic system that prioritises citizens’ welfare, production and transparent service delivery.
