Manchester United’s struggles have deepened following a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, raising fresh questions about manager Michael Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.
The defeat extended United’s winless run to eight games and left them 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. Carrick’s decision to leave captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench for the entire match also attracted attention after the midfielder’s recent criticism of the manager’s tactics.
Bournemouth secured a deserved victory through goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson, handing manager Marco Rose another impressive result after a 3-0 win over AC Milan earlier in the week.
Rayan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, connecting with Justin Kluivert’s free-kick before Tavernier doubled the advantage five minutes later. The midfielder tapped into an empty net after Leny Yoro lost possession under pressure from Adrien Truffert, who provided the assist.
Despite expectations that Fernandes would feature after the break, the Portugal international remained on the bench as United struggled to mount a comeback.
Bournemouth supporters taunted Carrick with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” as the hosts endured another disappointing afternoon.
United’s latest setback has renewed concerns about the club’s decline since the retirement of former manager Alex Ferguson in 2013. Although Carrick enjoyed a strong finish to last season during his interim spell, the club’s current form has placed his position under increasing scrutiny.
United have managed only two victories in their last 12 matches across all competitions, with the results against newly promoted Ipswich and Azerbaijani side Sabah accounting for their wins, according to the report.
The defeat also marked the third time in four seasons that Bournemouth had beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, further highlighting the scale of the home side’s struggles.
