The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions to verify the approved O’Level and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subject combinations for their preferred courses before making admission choices.
The board warned that candidates could lose admission opportunities despite obtaining good UTME scores and O’Level results if their subject combinations do not meet the specific requirements of their chosen institutions and programmes.
JAMB gave the advice in an advisory published on its JAMB Explained platform on X on Friday, stressing that universities, polytechnics and colleges of education have different admission requirements for various courses.
According to the board, candidates can verify the requirements through its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System portal at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng.
To access the information, candidates are required to visit the IBASS website, click on the brochure section, select the option to view all institutions and use the institution filter to identify their preferred institution.
They are then expected to select their desired course and click on the “View Details” option to access the approved O’Level subject requirements and UTME subject combinations for the programme.
The board urged candidates to carefully examine the requirements, ensure their O’Level subjects and grades meet the stipulated conditions and confirm that their UTME subject combinations are appropriate.
JAMB emphasised that checking the requirements before selecting or changing courses would help candidates avoid admission mistakes, noting that good examination performance alone does not guarantee eligibility for admission.
The board reiterated that candidates must satisfy the specific subject requirements of their chosen institutions and programmes to be considered for admission.
