Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has said he would accept a possible victory by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election as the verdict of Nigerians.

Dalung stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, amid ongoing efforts by opposition parties to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former minister said the opposition coalition should not be blamed if Tinubu is re-elected, arguing that Nigerians ultimately have the constitutional power to determine who governs the country.

“I will accept it as a verdict of Nigerians. It will mean that we are not on the same page with Nigerians as to the issues of the sovereignty of this country,” Dalung said.

He added that the coalition was only representing Nigerians in presenting an alternative political platform, while the final decision remained with voters.

Dalung’s comments come amid efforts by opposition parties to build a united platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Six opposition parties — the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) — recently met at a G100 summit in Abuja, where they proposed a “government of national competence” for a single four-year term.

The proposal, presented by former APC National Vice-Chairman, North-West, Salihu Lukman, is built around competence, integrity, national inclusion and fair representation.
The parties also proposed committees to work on democratic renewal, national reforms, opposition unity and the selection of a common presidential candidate.

Dalung maintained that regardless of the outcome of the coalition’s efforts, the decision at the 2027 presidential election would ultimately belong to the Nigerian electorate.
