Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, is set to host a high-level policy dialogue in New York to examine Africa’s expectations of the incoming United Nations Secretary-General.

The dialogue, organised by the Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement, is scheduled for September 19, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Themed “Africa’s Expectations of the New UN Secretary-General,” the event will bring together policymakers, diplomats and thought leaders to discuss Africa’s priorities and role in a rapidly changing international system.

Fayemi, who is expected to welcome participants at the meeting, said the dialogue would provide an important platform for Africa to clearly articulate its expectations for the future of multilateralism and the reform of global institutions.

According to him, the conversation will also focus on how African countries can exercise greater agency in shaping the global order and ensuring that the continent’s interests receive greater attention within international institutions.

The former governor described the dialogue as an opportunity to reflect on Africa’s priorities and its strategic position amid ongoing changes in global politics and international relations.

The meeting is expected to contribute to broader discussions around strengthening Africa’s voice in global affairs and redefining the continent’s engagement with the United Nations under the incoming Secretary-General.
