First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has disbursed N819 million to 1,638 widows of fallen military and police personnel under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme for Widows of Fallen Heroes.

Each beneficiary received N500,000 to start or expand a business and support their families. Of the total amount, N657.5 million went to 1,315 military widows, while N161.5 million was allocated to 323 police widows.

The symbolic presentation was held on Thursday in Abuja and covers families of security personnel who died in the line of duty from 2023 to date. The funds have already been credited to the beneficiaries’ Zenith Bank accounts.

Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, who is the National Chairman of the RHI, said the intervention was designed to honour the sacrifices of fallen security personnel while giving their families practical support to rebuild their livelihoods.

She noted that the beneficiaries had demonstrated resilience in the face of hardship, describing them as “remarkable survivors.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, assisted in compiling the list of beneficiaries.

The latest intervention is the second edition of the programme. In 2023, the RHI provided N250,000 grants to 1,420 widows and orphans of fallen heroes.
