Residents of Ado-Ekiti have called on the Ekiti State Government to urgently tackle recurring flooding through the dredging of waterways and construction and rehabilitation of drainage channels in flood-prone areas.

The call followed a heavy downpour on Thursday evening that caused flooding in several parts of the state capital, disrupting movement and threatening homes and businesses.

At Akin Akeju, opposite the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, floodwaters submerged parts of the road, making it difficult for residents to access their homes.

The situation was also reported at Abekoko Junction, where rising floodwaters stranded pedestrians, forcing some to wait until the water level receded before continuing their journeys.

The Basiri Sawmill area was also affected, with reports that the heavy rainfall caused some shops to collapse.
