Osun 2026: PSC Deploys Monitoring Team, Warns Police Officers Against Misconduct.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has urged police officers against misconduct and political bias, with the deployment of a monitoring team to Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The PSC said the delegation would monitor the conduct of police personnel deployed for the election and ensure strict compliance with guidelines governing election duties.
The monitoring team is led by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), a board member of the commission and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC, Torty Njoku Kalu, said the delegation would ensure that police officers maintain discipline, professionalism and impartiality before, during and after the election.
According to the commission, the deployment is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the Osun governorship election and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
PSC warns police against political involvement.
The Police Service Commission urged all officers deployed to Osun State to remain apolitical and conduct themselves professionally throughout the election period.
The commission also directed the officers to protect the rights of citizens and ensure that voters are allowed to participate freely and peacefully in the electoral process.
“The PSC delegation will ensure that officers deployed for the election strictly adhere to the guiding principles governing election duties and uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism before, during, and after the polls,” the commission said.
The PSC added that police conduct during the election must remain impartial, rule-based and civil.
PSC threatens sanctions for erring officers.
The commission warned that it would sanction any police officer found to have compromised the credibility or integrity of the Osun governorship election.
“The PSC reassures Nigerians that it will not hesitate to sanction any officer found compromising the credibility of the election,” it stated.
The commission further directed officers on election duty to uphold the rights of all citizens and contribute to a peaceful and credible election.
15,000 police officers deployed for Osun election.
The PSC monitoring team was deployed as 14 political parties prepare to participate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A total of 15,000 police officers have already been deployed to provide security during the election.
The PSC said its monitoring exercise would help ensure that the officers carry out their responsibilities professionally and without interference, while protecting voters and other stakeholders throughout the electoral process.
Residents of the state hope that with the deployment of the PSC delegation, Police Officers would not involve in any action of misconduct.
