President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has approved a ₦302.3 billion contract for the construction, furnishing, equipping and commissioning of a new National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) facility in Nigeria.

The approval was given by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), with the project expected to be completed within 36 months. The facility is planned to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity for cancer research, diagnosis and treatment, while also providing advanced infrastructure for training healthcare professionals and supporting specialised cancer care.

The development is part of the Federal Government’s broader investment in specialised healthcare infrastructure and efforts to improve access to cancer treatment in Nigeria.

Officials say the new institute is expected to enhance the country’s cancer-care capacity and reduce the need for Nigerians to travel abroad for specialised treatment.
