An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Tolu Bankole, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying sustained implementation is necessary to achieve long-term prosperity.
Bankole, a member of the APC National Working Committee, made the call in an Independence Day message as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary.
He said the reforms, though difficult and requiring patience, were laying the foundation for stronger economic growth and improved opportunities for Nigerians.
The APC chieftain cited Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 3.89 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, compared with 3.13 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2025, as one of the indicators of improving economic activity.
Bankole also pointed to reforms in the foreign exchange market, the Petroleum Industry Act, the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and the banking recapitalisation programme, saying they could strengthen government revenue, attract investment and improve economic resilience.
He acknowledged that the reforms had created economic pressures for citizens but maintained that transformation would take time and require consistency.
According to him, the priority should be to ensure that economic growth eventually translates into tangible improvements for households, businesses, farmers and young Nigerians.
Bankole therefore urged Nigerians to remain supportive of the administration, arguing that policy continuity would allow the government to consolidate ongoing reforms and translate economic gains into broader prosperity.
