Voting at the polling unit of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, was disrupted on Saturday following a violent incident in Ejigbo, Osun State.

The incident occurred at Unit 003, Iroyin Ayo Open Space, Ward 004, shortly after Salaam and his wife cast their ballots during the ongoing Osun State governorship election.

The crisis reportedly caused voters, electoral officials, observers and journalists to flee the polling unit as tension escalated.

Salaam was also said to have been escorted away by his security personnel after the situation became tense.

Following the disruption, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), observers and journalists reportedly left the area over fears of further violence.

Personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) later arrived at the polling unit in an attempt to restore order.

However, the security personnel subsequently left after the situation remained unsettled.

Voters stranded as voting stops.

Some voters who had arrived early to exercise their franchise were left stranded following the disruption.

A voter identified as Adewale expressed disappointment, saying he had waited for the election to commence but was unable to vote because of the crisis.

“I came here early because I wanted to vote and return home. But after the crisis started, everybody ran away. Now the INEC officials and security men have left. We don’t know what will happen next,” he said.

Another voter, who requested anonymity, said the incident had prevented many residents from participating in the election.

“We have been here since morning. We want to vote, but nobody is conducting the election anymore. The security people who came to restore order have also left,” the voter said.

Voting suspended at polling unit.

As of the time of filing this report, voting had remained suspended at the polling unit, with some voters still gathered at the location awaiting information on whether the exercise would resume.

The incident comes amid heightened security and political activity across Osun State as voters participate in the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Authorities are expected to provide further information on the status of voting at the affected polling unit.
