South African police have arrested five suspects, including two women, over the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 25-year-old e-hailing driver in Cape Town.

The South African Police Service said the victim was rescued after his brother alerted authorities that the suspects had demanded R4,000 for his release.

Police traced the victim through his vehicle tracker and found him at Southampton Road in Heathfield.

According to the police, the victim had met one of the female suspects through his e-hailing business the previous week.

The two exchanged phone numbers and later arranged to meet, but he was allegedly kidnapped when he arrived, with the two women accused of raping him.

The suspects comprise two women aged 23 and 34, and three males aged 16, 42 and 48. Police said all five suspects had been arrested and would appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 14, 2026.
