Convicted Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has described prison as a place where prayers are answered most, while claiming that some sudden deaths are linked to the prayers and curses of inmates.
The actor made the remarks during an interview with Dele Adeyanju on Agabletu TV, in a video shared on the television station’s YouTube channel on Sunday.
Reflecting on his experience behind bars months after his release, Baba Ijesha described prison life as bitter, alleging that he was made a scapegoat.
He advised young people to be careful about their actions, warning that conduct they consider harmless could eventually lead to imprisonment.
He also alleged that some correctional officers were harsher than police officers, saying inmates were treated without consideration for their social status or celebrity background.
The actor further expressed concern over the conditions of inmates, claiming that about 65 per cent of prisoners were innocent and urging the government, judges and lawyers to listen to their cases and review possible instances of wrongful detention.
Describing the prison environment as one of intense spiritual activities, Baba Ijesha said some inmates engage in prolonged prayers, sometimes making solemn appeals to God to establish their innocence.
He urged political leaders and people in positions of authority to exercise caution and consider the consequences of their actions, particularly when dealing with people facing legal challenges.
