The Federal Government has commenced discussions with electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) on plans to establish dedicated Energy Zones that will provide 24-hour electricity supply to high-demand areas across Nigeria.

The initiative is expected to focus on major commercial and economic centres, including Lagos, Abuja and Kano, with other locations also being considered under the proposed Energy Zones.

The government said the plan is aimed at improving electricity reliability in areas with significant commercial and industrial activities, while supporting businesses and boosting economic productivity.

DisCos are expected to work with relevant government agencies on the development and operation of the zones, including measures to ensure adequate power supply and efficient distribution.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity sector and provide more reliable power to consumers, particularly in areas with high energy demand.
