ASUU Suspends Strike in Three Lagos Universities, Academic Activities to Resume.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its industrial action at three state-owned universities in Lagos, paving the way for the immediate resumption of academic activities.

The affected institutions are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).

The union announced the suspension following negotiations with the Lagos State Government over lecturers’ welfare and the implementation of outstanding agreements.

In a joint statement, the union leaders described the development as a significant step towards improving staff welfare and ensuring the fulfilment of previously reached agreements.

The statement was signed by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator of the Steering Committee, ASUU-LASU; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman of ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman of ASUU-LASUTECH.

The union expressed appreciation to the media, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, students, parents and other stakeholders who supported its members throughout the negotiations.

ASUU also commended traditional rulers for their interventions and thanked students and parents for their patience and understanding during the industrial action.

“Our struggle for improved staff welfare and the implementation of vital academic agreements has reached a significant milestone, largely due to the collective support of well-meaning individuals and organisations,” the statement said.

Confirming the immediate return of its members to the classrooms, the union reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and the delivery of quality university education.

However, ASUU said discussions with the Lagos State Government would continue to ensure a comprehensive resolution of outstanding issues relating to lecturers’ welfare packages.

The suspension is expected to bring relief to students and parents affected by the disruption of academic activities in the three institutions.
