KEYAMO SLAMS ATIKU OVER NIGERIA AIRWAYS’ COLLAPSE

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the collapse of Nigeria Airways, accusing him of hypocrisy in his comments on the country’s aviation sector.

Keyamo reportedly questioned Atiku’s position on aviation-related issues, pointing to the liquidation of the defunct national carrier during the period he served as vice president under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The minister’s remarks have reignited debate over the responsibility of past administrations for the challenges that have affected Nigeria’s aviation industry and the country’s efforts to establish a sustainable national airline.

Nigeria Airways, which once served as the country’s flag carrier, was eventually liquidated after years of financial difficulties, operational challenges and mounting liabilities.

The airline’s collapse has remained a significant episode in Nigeria’s aviation history, with successive administrations exploring different approaches to restoring a strong national presence in the sector.

Keyamo’s criticism centres on Atiku’s role in the administration under which the airline was liquidated.

However, the specific circumstances surrounding the decision and the extent of individual responsibility remain important considerations in assessing the claims.

The exchange adds to the ongoing political debate over the management of Nigeria’s aviation industry, including the country’s efforts to develop a viable national carrier.
