The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that police officers will demonstrate professionalism before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Disu said the force was determined to build on lessons from recent elections to improve its performance and earn public confidence.
The IGP disclosed that the police had held a conference with commissioners of police and other senior officers to review past electoral experiences and identify areas requiring improvement.
He expressed confidence that the force would perform creditably during the forthcoming elections and make Nigerians proud.
Disu spoke after the launch of The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force, written by 96-year-old retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dame Stella Okuyiga, one of the first 20 female officers to join the force in 1955.
He said the police would distribute copies of the book to training institutions to preserve the history and experiences of pioneering female officers for future generations.
Okuyiga expressed delight that the publication would preserve her legacy and make her experiences accessible to readers around the world.
