World Food Day: Remi Tinubu Calls for Agricultural Innovation, Farmer Support.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased investment in agricultural innovation, stronger support for farmers and the adoption of sustainable farming practices to address food insecurity and improve nutrition across the country.

She also urged Nigerians to reduce food waste and embrace responsible food consumption, stressing that combining modern agricultural innovations with traditional farming knowledge is essential to building a resilient food system.

Mrs Tinubu made the call in her message commemorating World Food Day 2026, observed on Friday, October 16, with the theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.”

According to the First Lady, achieving sustainable food security requires collective efforts to boost agricultural productivity, minimise food waste and ensure that every Nigerian family has access to safe and nutritious food.

She noted that while technological advancement and modern agricultural methods are necessary, indigenous knowledge and traditional farming practices must be preserved because of their contributions to sustaining local food systems over generations.

The First Lady also highlighted the important role Nigerian farmers play in food production, household welfare and national development, calling for greater support to enable them to contribute more effectively to the country’s agricultural growth.

She urged individuals, communities and other stakeholders to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and make conscious efforts to avoid wasting food.

“Let us support our farmers, reduce food waste, and promote sustainable practices that will ensure access to safe and nutritious food for every family,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu expressed optimism that sustained investment in agriculture, improved innovation and responsible food management would help Nigeria overcome its food security challenges.

“With sustained commitment, we can build a food-secure nation and create a healthier future for generations to come,” the First Lady declared.

She wished Nigerians a happy World Food Day 2026, reiterating the need for collective responsibility in ensuring that every household has access to adequate, safe and nutritious food.
