Anambra Sets 18–35 Age Limit for Youth Organisations, Begins Enforcement in 2027.

The Anambra State Government has announced that it will begin strict enforcement of the 18–35-year age limit for youth organisations, leadership positions and youth development programmes from January 1, 2027.

The government said the policy was designed to ensure that opportunities reserved for young people reach eligible beneficiaries, promote fairness and encourage emerging leaders to develop their leadership skills.

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Reformation, Dr Nelson Omenugha, disclosed this in a statement.

Omenugha directed youth organisations, associations and relevant institutions across the state to review their membership records, leadership structures and operational guidelines to ensure compliance before the deadline.

He warned that organisations that failed to comply with the stipulated age bracket would no longer be recognised by the Ministry of Youth Development and relevant government agencies from January 1, 2027.

According to him, the directive aligns with the Soludo administration’s youth reformation agenda, which seeks to build a disciplined, productive, responsible and values-driven generation.

The government, however, clarified that the policy was not intended to prevent citizens above 35 from contributing to youth development.

Instead, it explained that the measure was aimed at protecting opportunities specifically reserved for young people while encouraging older and more experienced citizens to provide mentorship, guidance and support.

Omenugha urged stakeholders to use the transition period to make the necessary adjustments ahead of the enforcement date.He said the initiative was ultimately intended to strengthen youth participation, promote accountability and advance the state government’s vision of a New Onye Anambra through purposeful youth reformation.
