Court Dismisses Emeka Ike’s N10bn Suit Against Wike’s Aide, INEC.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N10 billion damages suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against the Independent National Electoral Commission and Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The court, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, dismissed the suit on Wednesday for lacking merit, ruling that the actor failed to provide credible evidence to substantiate his allegations against the defendants.

Ike had approached the court to seek N10 billion in damages over the alleged publication of his personal data in INEC’s database.

The actor claimed that the actions of Olayinka and the electoral commission had caused him considerable hardship and damages, prompting him to demand compensation.

He also sought a declaration that the defendants’ actions were illegal and unconstitutional.

However, delivering judgment, Justice Ibrahim held that Ike failed to establish how his fundamental rights had been violated by the defendants.

The judge maintained that the actor’s claims lacked sufficient evidence and substance to warrant the reliefs sought.

Consequently, the court dismissed the suit in favour of Olayinka and INEC.Justice Ibrahim, however, declined to award costs against the actor but cautioned litigants against filing frivolous suits capable of wasting the court’s time.
