Ekiti CP Warns Officers Against Extortion, Human Rights Abuses, Political Partisanship.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has warned police officers against misconduct, extortion, abuse of authority, unlawful detention and violation of citizens’ fundamental human rights.

He also cautioned personnel against political partisanship and undue political influence ahead of the forthcoming general elections, insisting that the police must remain neutral and impartial in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Falade gave the warning during a strategic meeting with officers of the Ekiti State Police Command at the Officers’ Mess Auditorium, Okesha, Ado-Ekiti, where he reinforced the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on professionalism, accountability, discipline and respect for the rule of law.

The police commissioner stressed that criminal investigations must be thorough, intelligence-driven and conducted in strict compliance with due process and established procedures.

He warned that officers found engaging in extortion, unlawful detention, intimidation and other forms of abuse of police powers would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

The CP also charged supervisory officers, heads of departments and Divisional Police Officers to take responsibility for the conduct of personnel under their supervision.

He directed officers to strictly observe the principles of Proportionality, Legality, Accountability and Necessity in all police operations.

On the forthcoming elections, Falade warned officers against actions capable of compromising the neutrality of the police, urging them to resist political pressure and provide adequate security for all political parties, candidates and members of the public without fear or favour.

He further called on personnel to sustain operational vigilance, strengthen intelligence gathering and improve collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, assuring residents that the command would continue to protect fundamental human rights, uphold the rule of law and sanction any officer found wanting in the performance of official duties.

The statement was issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, SP Abutu Sunday.
