The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria after what the ruling party described as an exceptionally demanding first year in office.
The APC chairman’s vacation is expected to provide him with time to rest, recharge and reflect on the responsibilities facing the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy.
Yilwatda Takes Break After Busy First YearAccording to the statement, Yilwatda has spent the past year engaged in extensive party activities, including consultations, travels and strategic meetings aimed at strengthening and repositioning the APC.
Since assuming office, the APC national chairman has worked with the National Working Committee, state governors, National Assembly members, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders to consolidate the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party listed the successful organisation and conclusion of the APC National Convention, strengthening of internal party structures and the conduct of primary elections at various levels among the achievements recorded under Yilwatda’s leadership.
“These achievements, coming within a relatively short period, have further consolidated the APC’s position as Nigeria’s leading political party and one of Africa’s largest and most formidable political organisations,” the statement said.APC Says Vacation Will Not Affect Party ActivitiesThe APC stressed that Yilwatda’s vacation should not be interpreted as a disengagement from his responsibilities.
Instead, the party described the break as an opportunity for the chairman to temporarily step away from the intensity of his daily activities, recharge and reflect on the challenges ahead.
The statement said Yilwatda would also use the period to sharpen his strategic thinking ahead of the 2027 presidential and general elections, which the APC described as a defining period for the party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
APC Chairman to Prepare for NWC RetreatDuring his vacation, Yilwatda is also expected to reflect on the next phase of the APC’s development and put finishing touches to plans for an upcoming National Working Committee retreat.
The retreat is expected to provide an opportunity for members of the NWC to assess the party’s progress, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months leading to the 2027 elections.
According to the APC, the meeting will also strengthen coordination among NWC members and improve the party’s preparedness for the upcoming electoral season.APC NWC to Continue Running Party The ruling party said Yilwatda’s absence from Nigeria would not affect the day-to-day administration of the APC.
It explained that the National Working Committee would continue to discharge its responsibilities in accordance with the party’s constitution and established procedures.
“The APC National Chairman remains fully committed to the party and its objectives,” the statement said.
Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
