The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed its Lagos State Deputy Chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, as acting chairman of the party in the state.
The appointment was authorised by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) following the ill health of the substantive chairman, Muka Popoola.
The National Organising Secretary of the party, Alhaji Umar Bature, conveyed the decision in a letter dated November 3, 2026, with the title, “Authorisation to Act as Acting Chairman.”
According to the letter, Ogunbiyi’s appointment took immediate effect and will remain in place pending the organisation of a party congress to determine the substantive leadership of the Lagos State chapter.
Bature, who signed the letter on behalf of the NWC, said the decision was necessary due to Popoola’s health condition. He also congratulated Ogunbiyi on his new responsibility.
The development places Ogunbiyi in charge of the party’s affairs in Lagos State until a congress is organised.
