A Finnish appeal court has reduced the prison sentence of pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, from six years to four years.
The court reportedly considered the circumstances surrounding Ekpa’s activities in south-eastern Nigeria, noting that the situation in the Biafra region resembled a civil war but did not meet the legal definition of one.
According to Yle, Ekpa argued during the appeal that his involvement in the region’s political crisis was not motivated by terrorist intent.
However, the prosecutor also appealed the original judgment, arguing that the six-year prison sentence was insufficient given the seriousness of Ekpa’s offences.
