The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed claims that the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has recognised any faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the authentic leadership of the party in the state.
The police described as false and misleading a publication circulating on social media which allegedly claimed that the Commissioner of Police had legally recognised Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo as the authentic Chairman of the ADC in Ekiti State.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the command said the publication was fabricated and an attempt to misrepresent the position of the Commissioner of Police.
“The claim is false, baseless and misleading, and constitutes an attempt to misrepresent the position of the Commissioner of Police and, by extension, cast aspersions on the integrity and professionalism of the Ekiti State Police Command,” the statement said.
The command explained that the two factions involved in the ADC leadership dispute had separately submitted petitions to the office of the Commissioner of Police on August 25 and 26, 2026.
According to the police, one faction, led by Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo, petitioned the command over issues concerning the legitimacy of the party leadership, while the other faction, led by Dr. Bamidele Ekunola, raised concerns over the alleged illegal occupation of the party secretariat.
To prevent a breakdown of law and order, the police said both factions were invited through the State Intelligence Department for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police on August 31, 2026.
During the meeting, CP Falade reportedly listened to submissions from both sides and urged them to maintain peace and avoid actions capable of causing public disorder.
The Commissioner also advised the factions to seek legal redress through appropriate judicial channels where necessary.
The police said both groups expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and agreed to consult their respective state and national party leadership in search of an amicable resolution.
Representatives of the two factions also signed written undertakings to maintain peace and explore lawful means of resolving the leadership dispute.
However, the Ekiti Police Command expressed concern that a publication later emerged claiming that the Commissioner of Police had recognised one of the factions as the legitimate leadership of the ADC.
The command stressed that the Ekiti State Police Command remains neutral and apolitical in all political matters.
“At no time did the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, recognise, endorse, affirm or declare any faction of the African Democratic Congress or any other political party as the authentic or legitimate faction,” the statement added.
The police assured residents that the command would continue to treat all individuals and groups fairly and without bias while maintaining peace, public order and adherence to the rule of law across Ekiti State.
The command urged members of the public to disregard the alleged publication, describing it as false and without factual basis.
Political actors and other members of the public were also warned against spreading unverified information capable of creating tension, confusion or unnecessary apprehension in the state.
