The Ekiti State Police Command has intensified security preparations ahead of the ember months, holding strategic meetings with hoteliers, bank managers and Chief Security Officers across the state.
The meetings, held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, were part of efforts to prevent a possible rise in criminal activities during the ember period and strengthen collaboration between the police and critical stakeholders.
The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, said the engagements were aimed at identifying security vulnerabilities and improving intelligence sharing to protect hotels, banks, financial institutions and other vulnerable establishments.
The meetings were held in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to ensure a peaceful and secure ember period across Nigeria.
Addressing members of the Hoteliers Association, the CP warned hotel operators against allowing their facilities to become hideouts or operational bases for criminals.
He urged hotel owners and managers to properly screen and profile guests, maintain accurate records, strengthen internal security measures and closely monitor activities within their premises.
Adegoroye also directed hoteliers to promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line, 08062335577.
The police commissioner warned that hoteliers who knowingly allow their facilities to be used for criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
He stressed the importance of cooperation and regular information sharing between hotel operators, the police and other security agencies.
The Chairman of the Hoteliers Association, Hon. Akin Stephen, commended the police command for the initiative and assured the commissioner of the association’s readiness to support security agencies in protecting hotel operators, guests and members of the public.
Ekiti Police Urge Banks to Strengthen Security
At a separate meeting with bank managers and Chief Security Officers, the Commissioner of Police called for stronger security measures to prevent bank robberies, attacks and other criminal incidents.
He urged financial institutions to adopt proactive security strategies and ensure that security infrastructure, including CCTV cameras, security guards and access-control systems, remained functional and effective.
The CP also directed banks to immediately address identified security gaps and maintain close communication with the police.
He emphasised strict compliance with approved security procedures during the movement of cash and other valuables, noting that such operations must be conducted in line with established safety protocols.
Adegoroye further called for continuous intelligence sharing among banks, CSOs, the police and other relevant stakeholders, stressing that early warning and prompt reporting could help prevent criminal activities.
The bank managers and CSOs appreciated the commissioner for the proactive engagement and pledged to strengthen their internal security arrangements, address vulnerabilities and sustain information sharing with the police.
Police Promise Increased Patrols During Ember Months
In his closing remarks, CP Adegoroye assured stakeholders that the command would continue to implement intelligence-led policing, increase visibility patrols and conduct proactive operations across Ekiti State throughout the ember months.
He reiterated that security remains a collective responsibility, urging hoteliers, bankers, security officers and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
