The Ekiti State Police Command has pledged its full support to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, in its campaign against fake journalists and quackery in the journalism profession.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, made the commitment on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when he received members of the NUJ Anti-Quackery Task Force, led by its Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Olofe, at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
The visit was aimed at formally briefing the Police Command on the activities of the task force and seeking police cooperation in identifying individuals who allegedly impersonate journalists or engage in practices capable of undermining the credibility of the journalism profession in Ekiti State.
Speaking during the meeting, CP Adegoroye commended the NUJ for its efforts to protect the integrity of journalism and assured the delegation that the Police Command was ready to collaborate with the Union within the ambit of the law.
The Commissioner also praised journalists and media practitioners in Ekiti for their cooperation and professionalism, particularly their role in disseminating credible information and promoting public awareness on security and crime prevention.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the cordial relationship between the Police and the media, noting that effective policing requires the cooperation of journalists and other stakeholders to keep the public informed and promote peace and security.
CP Adegoroye further assured the NUJ Anti-Quackery Task Force of police support in cases involving criminal impersonation, fraud, intimidation and other unlawful activities, while emphasising that all actions must remain within the provisions of the law.
He urged genuine journalists to continue to uphold professional ethics and assured media practitioners that the Command would maintain its open-door policy and constructive engagement with the media.
Earlier, the NUJ delegation expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for his reception and commitment to the anti-quackery campaign.
The task force also pledged to sustain its collaboration with the Police Command in promoting crime prevention and responsible journalism across Ekiti State.

It is believed that with the new collaboration, the fight against fake journalists and quackery in the journalism profession in Ekiti State will be won effectively.
There have been reported cases of some individuals parading themselves as Journalists in Ekiti, prompting action from the leadership of NUJ in the state.
