Nigerian content creator, Mummy Wa, has sparked controversy online after questioning how some female entertainers fund the expensive lifestyles they display on social media.

Mummy Wa made the statement while appearing on the Unserious Podcast alongside skitmaker Zic Aloma and streamer Phyna.

During the discussion, she said she understands how much content creators earn and argued that becoming popular or going viral does not necessarily mean a person makes enough money to support an extravagant lifestyle.

According to her, some female entertainers receive financial support from men, and she questioned what some of the women do in return for the money.

Mummy Wa went further to allege that “a lot of women in the entertainment industry are prostitutes,” a comment that quickly generated reactions from social media users.

She also challenged entertainers who display expensive lifestyles to show evidence of their investments and explain how they are able to afford some of the things they regularly flaunt online.

Her comments, however, have been met with both support and criticism from members of the public.

One social media user appeared to agree with her position, saying many people already have an idea of how some flashy lifestyles in the entertainment industry are funded.

According to the user, living an expensive lifestyle or receiving financial assistance does not automatically mean a woman is involved in prostitution or “hookup.”

The controversy has since opened another conversation online about fame, money and the pressure on entertainers to maintain expensive lifestyles.

While some people believe Mummy Wa only said what many are afraid to say publicly, others feel her comments unfairly targeted female entertainers and could reinforce negative stereotypes about women in the industry.
