Onanuga Tells Peter Obi to Stop Claiming 2023 Election Victory.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has urged the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, to stop claiming victory in the 2023 presidential election, insisting that he lost the poll and should accept the outcome.

Onanuga made the remarks in response to Obi’s recent interview on a Television station, during which the former Anambra State governor maintained that he won the 2023 presidential election but was rigged out.

In a statement, Onanuga described the interview as a public relations setback for Obi, accusing him of remaining in denial despite the Supreme Court’s judgment on the election.

Addressing Obi’s comments, Onanuga rejected comparisons between Obi’s political journey and that of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that Tinubu had remained within the progressive political movement throughout his career.

According to him, Tinubu began his political career with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), won a Senate seat on its platform, and has consistently aligned with progressive parties rather than moving across ideologically different political platforms.

Onanuga also faulted Obi’s continued insistence that he won the 2023 election, saying the former Labour Party candidate had been given an opportunity during the interview to acknowledge the election outcome but instead repeated claims that had already been dismissed by the courts.

While acknowledging Obi’s performance at the polls, Onanuga said the former governor lacked a nationwide political structure and relied heavily on support from followers on social media platforms.

He maintained that the Supreme Court had upheld the election results and urged Obi to move on, saying it was time for him to accept the reality of the 2023 presidential election outcome rather than continue to claim a victory he did not secure.
