The Abia State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged theft and sale of a four-day-old baby in the state.

The suspects were reportedly arrested following an investigation into the disappearance of the newborn from his mentally unstable mother.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly conspired to take the baby and subsequently sold the child.

The Command said the arrests followed efforts by its operatives to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and trace the whereabouts of the newborn.

The four suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with information as investigations continue.

The police assured members of the public that efforts were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify any other persons who may have been involved.

The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities involving children to the appropriate authorities.
