President Tinubu Directs Efcc To Vacate Court Order Freezing Osun Government Account.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately vacate the court order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government, citing the need to protect the integrity of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

In a statement, the President said he was deeply embarrassed by the timing of the EFCC’s action, even though the agency was acting within its legal mandate.

He explained that, as President, actions taken by federal institutions are often attributed to him, regardless of whether he had prior knowledge of them.

Tinubu reiterated his commitment to allowing anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies to operate independently without political interference, stressing that he has consistently avoided directing the operational activities of the EFCC or any other investigative agency since assuming office.

However, the President noted that with the Osun governorship election only days away, the freezing of the state’s accounts could create the impression that the Federal Government was attempting to influence the electoral process.

He therefore directed the EFCC to return to court immediately to vacate the order and discontinue all actions relating to the freezing of the Osun State Government’s accounts.
