A group, the Save Oyo Movement (SOM), has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of allegedly spending more than N4 billion in state funds on the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and campaign vehicles.

The group made the allegation in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Akeem Oladiti.

According to SOM, Governor Makinde has allegedly been releasing N250 million monthly over the past six months to fund the activities of the APM, including the payment of salaries and allowances of party officials.

The group also alleged that the governor purchased more than 30 Hilux vehicles, which it claimed were being distributed to APM state coordinators.

SOM further alleged that some of the vehicles were initially parked at Makinde’s campaign office in Abuja before being moved to undisclosed locations.

The group called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the finances of the Oyo State Government, particularly what it described as the alleged use of public funds for political activities.

The allegations came amid a recent call by the APM for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step aside for Governor Makinde, who the party is backing as its presidential candidate.SOM dismissed the APM’s position, describing it as politically motivated and alleging that the party was seeking to justify the funds it claimed were being released to it monthly.The group said it expected what it described as the alleged misuse of state resources for political activities to end with the conclusion of Governor Makinde’s tenure.The allegations by SOM have not been independently verified, and the statement does not include documentary evidence supporting the claimed N4 billion expenditure.
