Nigeria recorded a merchandise trade surplus of N12.59 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS disclosed this in its Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics report released on Monday.

According to the report, Nigeria’s total merchandise trade stood at N41.44 trillion in Q2 2026, representing a 5.61 percent increase from the N39.24 trillion recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

The trade surplus indicates that the value of goods exported by Nigeria exceeded the value of goods imported during the period.

The latest figures highlight the continued dominance of exports in Nigeria’s merchandise trade, as the country maintains a positive trade balance.
