Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has presented a proposed N490.74 billion budget for the 2027 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
The budget, valued at N490,740,209,860.38, represents an 18 per cent increase over the state’s 2026 approved budget.
Presenting the estimates at the Assembly complex in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Oyebanji said the proposal was designed to consolidate the achievements of his administration and improve the living conditions of residents.
According to the governor, the 2027 budget will strengthen investment in critical sectors of the state’s economy, with emphasis on education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and food security, job creation, governance and effective public administration.
The proposal allocates N275.68 billion, representing 56 per cent, to recurrent expenditure, while N215.06 billion, or 44 per cent, is earmarked for capital expenditure.
Oyebanji stressed the need for responsible implementation of the budget, saying government policies, programmes and projects must translate into tangible benefits for the people of Ekiti State.
The governor also said the budget was aligned with the Ekiti State Development Plan 2021–2050, the 2027–2029 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and the administration’s development priorities.
Following the presentation, the Ekiti State House of Assembly referred the 2027 Appropriation Bill to its Committee on Appropriation for scrutiny and further legislative consideration before passage.
The proposed budget had earlier been approved by the State Executive Council during its eighth meeting of 2026 held on Wednesday.
