NERC: 4.7 Million Electricity Customers Remain Unmetered.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, says more than 4.7 million electricity customers across the country remain without meters.

According to the commission’s latest metering factsheet for July and August 2026, a total of four million, 704 thousand, 223 customers were unmetered as of August.

NERC said Nigeria’s national metering rate increased to 63.10 per cent in August, from 62.37 per cent recorded in July.

The commission disclosed that out of the 12.75 million active customers in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, just over eight million had been provided with electricity meters.

It added that electricity distribution companies metered an additional 141,746 customers in August, lower than the 159,980 customers recorded in July.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company led the metering chart with 89.64 per cent, followed by Ikeja DisCo with 87.74 per cent, while Abuja DisCo recorded 82.62 per cent.

Despite the improvement in the national metering rate, the figures indicate that more than one-third of active electricity customers remain without meters.
