Police Probe Attack on Oriyomi Hamzat’s Supporters in Ibadan, One Dead.

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on supporters welcoming broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat back to Ibadan, which left a 40-year-old man dead.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has directed the Command Monitoring Unit to take over the investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend those responsible.

The attack was reported to the police on Wednesday by Samuel Ibikunle, Hamzat’s spokesperson, who said suspected hoodlums ambushed the group shortly after they left Molete for Iwo Road, where the headquarters of Agidigbo FM is located.

The victim, identified as Azeez Tajudeen, a native of Oke Amu in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, reportedly sustained a severe injury to his right eye during the attack.

He was rushed to the State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where medical personnel examined him and confirmed his death. His remains have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a statement, assuring the public that the command would ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The police also urged political aspirants, party leaders and event organisers to obtain security clearance before organising rallies, processions or other large public gatherings.

The command advised organisers to notify the police at least 48 hours before any planned gathering to enable adequate security arrangements and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

It also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist the investigation to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free number 615 or the Police Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
