The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it will obtain a court order to transfer Faisal Maina, son of former Pension Reform Task Team chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina, to a correctional centre to serve his 14-year prison sentence.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Faisal’s arrest on Saturday, following his apprehension by operatives of the Department of State Services in Karsana, Abuja.
Oyewale said the commission would secure the necessary court order to facilitate his transfer to a correctional facility.
“Confirmed. The necessary court order will be obtained to take him to the Correctional Centre for him to serve his sentence,” he said in response to enquiries.
Faisal had reportedly been on the run since 2020 after jumping bail in a money laundering case instituted against him by the EFCC.
The anti-graft agency had arraigned him on three counts bordering on money laundering and conspiracy.
Following his disappearance, the court continued his trial in absentia and sentenced him to 14 years’ imprisonment in 2021.
His arrest by DSS operatives is expected to pave the way for the enforcement of the sentence, subject to the necessary court order.
