Marriage Not Central to My Life, Says Bisola Aiyeola.

Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has said marriage is not the defining goal of her life, stressing that she is fulfilled and under no pressure to get married.

The actress, who turned 40 in January, made this known during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where she shared her views on marriage, single parenthood and the responsibilities women shoulder in relationships.

Bisola said although she would welcome marriage if the opportunity arose, she would not make it the centre of her existence.

The actress also criticised relationships in which women are expected to provide for their families, raise children and manage the home with little or no support from their partners.

She questioned the rationale behind marriage when women are left to shoulder responsibilities that should be shared by both partners.

Bisola noted that such unequal arrangements could make women reconsider the value of marriage, particularly when they are already handling family responsibilities largely on their own.

The actress, who is raising her daughter as a single parent, acknowledged that the experience comes with significant challenges.

She said she regularly reminds her daughter that single parenthood is difficult and should not be viewed as an ideal situation to aspire to.“Being a single parent and looking after my daughter, I still let her know that being a single parent is not that easy.

That’s not what you should aspire to be. Bearing the whole load of raising a child shouldn’t be for one person alone,” she said.

Reflecting on her life at 40, the actress expressed satisfaction with her personal growth and current stage of life.“I turned 40 in January. Yeah. I love me so much, and this is the best time of my life,” she added.
