The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the discharge of the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, and other victims of the fracas at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, saying investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Command disclosed that Sowore and other persons affected by the incident were treated and discharged from the Police Cottage Hospital in Ado-Ekiti following the incident, which occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of the state capital.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, police operatives responded promptly after receiving information about the incident, rescued those affected and ensured they received medical attention.
The statement added that Sowore was discharged at about 4:30 p.m. and had since returned to Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, where he was initially lodged.
However, the police said efforts to obtain Sowore’s formal statement and personal account of the incident were unsuccessful, as he allegedly declined on several occasions to make a statement to assist the investigation.
The Command also stated that Sowore did not formally notify it of his arrival in Ekiti State or communicate his movements within the state, noting that such notification would have enabled the police to make adequate security arrangements during his stay.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The police assured residents that the security situation in Ado-Ekiti and its environs remained calm, adding that intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations were ongoing across identified black spots to maintain public safety.
The Command also urged members of the public to disregard sensational and unverified reports circulating on social media, advising them to rely on credible information from official sources.
It reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and providing adequate security for residents, visitors and political stakeholders, irrespective of their political affiliations or status.
