Ekiti State has been ranked the safest state in Nigeria, scoring 98.3 points in a recent national security assessment, a development attributed to the security initiatives of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration.
The recognition comes days after the state emerged winner of the 2026 National Pension Award in the State of the Year category for its implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The latest security ranking highlights the state’s efforts to strengthen its security architecture, improve intelligence gathering and promote peaceful coexistence among residents.
The administration has supported security agencies through the provision of operational facilities, modern equipment and logistical assistance to improve their capacity to respond to security threats.
A major intervention was the recent distribution of 100 operational vehicles to various security agencies across the state to enhance mobility, surveillance and rapid response to criminal activities.
The government has also encouraged community participation in security management through public sensitisation and engagement, urging residents to remain vigilant, provide useful intelligence and report suspicious movements.
The administration’s approach also emphasises peaceful coexistence, inclusive governance and collaboration between government, communities and security agencies as essential components of sustainable security.
The latest recognition adds to the state’s recent national achievements, with the government maintaining that its policies and institutional reforms are aimed at improving security, development and the welfare of residents.
