The Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere-Ekiti, Professor Babatunde Omojola, has commended the Students’ Union Government (SUG) for constructing a public toilet facility on campus, describing the initiative as a demonstration of purposeful leadership and commitment to students’ welfare.
Omojola, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Adebisi Awodun, gave the commendation during the commissioning of the facility, located at the centre of the university campus.
He described the project as a landmark achievement and the first of its kind since the establishment of the institution, noting that it reflected the ability of student leaders to identify challenges and provide practical solutions.
According to him, the university management would continue to support student-driven initiatives aimed at improving campus infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of students.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chairman of Ikere Local Government, Chief Ayodele Ijasan, who represented the council chairman, praised the SUG executive for its developmental strides and urged incoming student leaders to build on the achievements of their predecessors.
Also speaking, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Oludayo Daramola, commended the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment to institutional development and acknowledged the contributions of the university’s Director of Works and Director of Physical Planning to the successful completion of the project.
Daramola described the facility as one of several welfare-oriented projects executed by the Comrade Sanya Ifeoluwa-led SUG administration.
The Dean urged the incoming SUG administration to sustain the culture of purposeful leadership by initiating projects that would positively impact students.
Earlier, the SUG President, Comrade Sanya Ifeoluwa, expressed appreciation to the university management for its support and encouragement of student-led initiatives.
He said the project was conceived to address a pressing need within the university community and serve as an example for future student leaders, associations and departments to undertake projects that directly benefit students.
Ifeoluwa, however, appealed to the university management to rehabilitate some existing public toilet facilities at strategic locations on campus, which are currently non-functional.
The commissioning underscores the growing collaboration between the university management and student leadership in promoting infrastructural development and improving students’ welfare.
