The Nigerian Army says it has fully recovered its official X account following an attempted cyberattack in August. The Army announced on Sunday that its verified handle, @HQNigerianArmy, had been restored and was now under its exclusive official management.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, had earlier confirmed that unauthorised access attempts were detected on the account on August 29, prompting immediate security measures to prevent further breaches.
During the recovery process, the Army had advised members of the public and the media to disregard suspicious or unverified information posted on the account and rely on its other verified social media platforms for authentic updates.
The incident came weeks after a similar cyberattack on the Defence Headquarters’ X account, which was recovered within days.
The Army says the restoration of its account will enable it to resume direct communication with the public on security operations and other defence-related matters.
