President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to engage with organised labour despite repeated attempts by the union to discuss workers’ concerns.
Ajaero made the allegation during the latest episode of Mic On Podcast released on Saturday, while recalling the NLC’s planned nationwide protest in December 2025.
He said the congress wrote several letters to President Tinubu between May and December 2025 but received no response, forcing the union to announce a nationwide demonstration.
According to the NLC president, the government has remained disconnected from the labour movement over the past two to three years.
Ajaero said the intervention of some state governors eventually led to a meeting with the union, adding that there had been only one or two engagements with the government since then.
He, however, lamented that the issues raised by organised labour had remained unresolved, accusing the government of continuing with its activities without adequately addressing workers’ concerns.
Ajaero’s comments come amid renewed labour tensions following a three-day warning strike embarked upon by public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.
The union had earlier threatened industrial action if the Federal Government failed to reduce the price of petrol to N500 per litre and approve a new wage award for workers.
