The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has commenced mobilisation for the forthcoming December local government elections while stepping up preparations for the party’s congresses.
The party’s leadership met with chairmanship and councillorship candidates, local government and LCDA party chairmen, as well as the 177 ward chairmen across the state at the Osuntokun Government House Pavilion.
The meeting, chaired by the APC State Chairman, Barrister Shola Eleshin, also had members of the State Congress Committee and other party leaders in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, the party leadership directed candidates and grassroots leaders to commence immediate mobilisation ahead of the local government elections.
The Secretary of the State Congress Committee, Rt. Hon. Karounwi Oladapo, urged the candidates to consolidate the gains recorded by the APC in the recent governorship election.
He charged them to work harder to justify the votes secured by the party and surpass its previous electoral performance.
Former APC State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, described the local government election as a serious political contest, expressing confidence in the party’s grassroots structure to defeat the opposition.
On the forthcoming congresses, Eleshin stressed the need for proper zoning arrangements at the grassroots to prevent disputes and ensure a smooth process.
The party leadership also emphasised loyalty and discipline as key considerations in the emergence of individuals who would occupy various party positions during the congresses.
Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun assured members that the party had established internal mechanisms for resolving grievances and disagreements that could arise during the congresses.
The APC leadership subsequently directed candidates and ward structures to return to their respective areas, strengthen internal coordination and begin immediate engagement with voters.
The party said unity, loyalty, discipline and effective grassroots mobilisation would remain critical as it seeks to consolidate its structures and retain its dominance across Ekiti State’s local governments and LCDAs.
