Atiku Raises Alarm Over Alleged Breach of Private Bank Account Details

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over what he described as a suspected breach of his private banking information after an unknown individual reportedly transferred money into one of his personal bank accounts.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the transaction was made into a private account with a leading commercial bank in Nigeria. He noted that the payment carried the description, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” even though neither he nor his campaign team had requested or authorised any such donation.

The former presidential candidate said the development was troubling because the account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available. He questioned how an unidentified person obtained the confidential banking information, warning that the incident raises serious concerns about the security of Nigerians’ financial data.

According to Atiku, if the private banking details of a former Vice President and presidential hopeful can be accessed without authorisation, then the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians is also at risk. He alleged that the information may have been leaked by individuals with privileged access to sensitive records.

Atiku warned that exposing confidential banking information could put account holders at risk of attacks by kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements. He urged relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and uncover those responsible.

The former Vice President also described the development as part of what he called a series of suspicious events ahead of the 2027 general elections. He dismissed what he termed attempts to tarnish his image, insisting that he remains committed to offering credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
