NYSC Disowns Fake Redeployment Notice, Warns Corps Members Against Fraud.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as fake a viral notice circulating online which claims that a special redeployment window has been opened for corps members.
The scheme issued the disclaimer on Friday through its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, warning corps members, parents, and guardians not to fall victim to fraudsters behind the misleading message.
The fake notice, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” alleged that corps members could apply for redeployment due to concerns relating to national security, health, and the state of the nation. It further urged interested applicants to contact specific phone numbers and submit documents for processing.
Reacting to the development, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters tagged the notice as a “Disclaimer” and prominently marked it with a “FAKE NEWS” watermark, stressing that the information did not originate from the scheme.
The agency reiterated that all deployment and redeployment matters are handled strictly through its official channels, including its online portal and designated offices nationwide. It also emphasized that it does not authorize agents, middlemen, or phone-based processing for redeployment requests.
NYSC noted that fraudsters have repeatedly exploited the redeployment process to deceive and extort unsuspecting corps members and their families. The scheme therefore urged the public to verify any information relating to NYSC activities through its official website and verified social media platforms before taking action or making payments.
As of the time of filing this report, the NYSC had not disclosed the identities of those responsible for circulating the fake notice.
The management advised corps members to remain vigilant and report suspicious messages or requests for money linked to deployment and redeployment processes.
The development comes amid renewed efforts by the NYSC to combat online misinformation and protect corps members from fraudulent schemes targeting the national service programme.
