BOUESTI Management Explains Pension Delay, Assures Retirees of Payment by Friday.

The management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, has explained the delay in the payment of pension owed its retirees, assuring that the August 2026 pension will be paid on or before Friday, September 19.

The university gave the assurance in a press statement signed by its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Babatunde Omojola, following a protest by some retirees on Monday, September 14, 2026, over delayed pension payments.

According to the management, the university currently owes pension for August 2026 and half of July 2026.It attributed the delay to a paucity of funds and a technical upgrade of its payment gateway by its bankers, stressing that the situation was not intentional.

The Vice-Chancellor said management was working assiduously to ensure that the August pension payment is made on or before September 19.

BOUESTI promises payment of outstanding July pensionProfessor Omojola also disclosed that the university had planned to pay the outstanding 50 per cent of the July 2026 pension within the same period.

He said the institution had consistently made monthly pension payments and described the August 2026 delay as the first occurrence.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that BOUESTI had expended more than N4 billion on pension and gratuity obligations since 2021, underscoring the institution’s commitment to the welfare of its retirees.

Management appeals for calmThe university management said it had engaged the Executive Committee of the Retirees’ Association before the protest to explain the challenges confronting the institution.

It, however, expressed regret that the engagement did not prevent the subsequent protest.

Professor Omojola acknowledged the years of service and sacrifice of the retirees, assuring them that their welfare remained a top priority of the university.

He appealed to the retirees to remain calm while payment processes are concluded. The management also urged members of the public and the media to disregard any information suggesting that BOUESTI had abandoned its pension obligations, describing such reports as inaccurate.
